The sub-regional office for Central Asia of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAOSEC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan organized an International Conference on Development of Organic Agriculture in Central Asia during 22-24 August 2017 within the framework of the FAO project TCP/UZB/3501 in Tashkent & Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

120 participants

120 participants from more than 20 countries of North Africa, Europe, Middle east-Central and South Asia (Tashkent).

120 participants  included scientists, agriculture and extension specialists, farmers and policy makers from more than 20 countries of North Africa, Europe, Middle east-Central and South Asia attended in this conference with the aims of: exchange knowledge, best practices to raise public awareness for the development of organic production in Central Asia with regard to the latest scientific and practical advances as well as improvement of legislation and regulatory documents on organic production, whole supply chain (quality, production, processing and marketing), integration of regional agricultural economics with international requirements and overcoming of technical barriers to international trade.

In the presented declaration of this conference, the participants indicated that enhanced regional cooperation through involvement of FAO is required to solve these problems and develop a sustainable organic agriculture in Central Asia. Also, activities with focusing on exchange of experts, organizing of training programs for farmers, processors and traders, will bloom organic agriculture in this region. Regular regional conferences and regional relevant website that allow of exchange information, news and data which will help to develop and sustain a regional network of organic agriculture was another indicated subject in the declaration.

ISOFAR World Board Member, Dr. Reza Ardakani has participated in this conference as an invited speaker. Also, Mr. Zhou Zejiang the IFOAM Asia President presented a speech with focusing on current status and development trend of organic agriculture in the world and Asia.The participants highly appreciated Dr. Uygun Aksoy (Emeritus Professor of Horticulture, Ege University, Turkey) and Mr. Hafiz Muminjanov [(FAOSEC Officer in Charge, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Subregional Office for Central Asia (SEC)] for all of their efforts for gathering the relevant people from different countries and very well organized and fruitful conference in Uzbekistan.
