This multi-stakeholder platform's main mission is to serve as a collective global network that enables young professionals to realize their full potential and contribute towards innovative and sustainable agricultural development.

YPARD is an international movement made by and for young professionals under 40 years active in agricultural development. It operates as a network and with more than 10,000 members from 168 countries. YPARD is a decentralized organization. Its global unit is located in Rome in Italy, and there are regional sections for Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Many countries also have national sections, and the activities in each country vary depending on the needs and wishes of the country's members. YPARD globally is hosted by Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) which in turn is hosted by the FAO.

At the heart of YPARD are its members, who are encouraged to become active in their area, spread the news about YPARD and share their views and ideas with other young professionals. YPARD has four core strategic objectives. The first is to serve as a tool for young professionals to exchange information and knowledge across disciplines, professions, age and regions. Second, YPARD seeks to broaden the opportunities for young professionals to contribute to strategic policy debates about agricultural research and development. YPARD also seeks to promote agriculture among young people, and the last objective is to facilitate resource and capacity building opportunities such as jobs, funding, courses and trainings. Every year, there are also a number of international conferences and forums where YPARD members can participate and contribute to strategic debates and discussions.

YPARD in Sweden currently has 38 members, which makes it the Scandinavian country with the most members. In September 2015, Sweden got its first country representative, Karolin Andersson, a food agronomist experienced in agricultural development and research in East Africa and South Asia. Up until now, there have been few activities among the members in YPARD Sweden, likely due to the lack of coordination of members across institutions and organizations. In September 2015, YPARD Sweden was presented during the Agricultural Research for Development Conference (Agri4D) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala.

During a career day for students and graduates at SLU held in April 2016, YPARD Sweden was one of five organizations presenting. The aim was to inspire and support young professionals interested in pursuing an international career in agricultural development, and the day consisted of presentations and information by several stakeholders in the Swedish development sector, followed by round table discussions where students were given the opportunity to discuss career paths with the presenters. YPARD has an important role to play for students and graduates ready to begin their career in agricultural development, as they provide networking opportunities and it facilitates access to job, internship and funding opportunities worldwide.

YPARD in Sweden wants our neighboring countries to grow with us, so young professionals interested or active in agricultural development in Norway are strongly encouraged to become members of the global network.
