Guidelines for paper submission
Please note: The deadline for submitting papers to the 3rd ISOFAR conference is November 30, 2010.
Technical requirements
Before submitting a paper, please check the following guidelines carefully.
Successful papers must:
- Be drafted using the mandatory template (Template for 4 page papers). PLEASE SUBMIT AS A WORD DOCUMENT.
- Be uploaded at www.ifoam.org/kowc2011
- Fulfill high scientific requirements and, if applicable be structured in the way outlined here.
Scientific requirements
ISOFAR is aware of the increasing importance of peer reviewed papers published in journals with high impact factors. To avoid competition between ‘inspiring conferences’ and ‘true publications’, scientific excellence will mainly be determined not by the amount of data published in the conference paper, but primarily by the quality of the contribution with respect to content and relevance for Organic Agriculture.
We particularly recommend authors to consider a future full paper publication in the new journal ‘Organic Agriculture’.
Accepted papers must present the work clearly, in plain, accurate English.
ISOFAR welcomes research papers on all kinds of organic agriculture research, focusing on the wide list of topics. Contributions related to the specific agricultural conditions of Asia are particularly welcome.
- Soil fertility
- Crop production
- Livestock husbandry
- Socioeconomics
- Food processing and marketing
- Food quality
- Natural resources and agro-ecology
- Research methodology, on-farm research and innovative knowledge transfer.
Special attention will be paid to cross- and trans-disciplinary papers that include substantial scientific input from at least two academic disciplines. Authors should aim to demonstrate improved understanding of organic agriculture and food systems.
Cross-disciplinary papers will be given high priority for oral presentation.
Paper structure
Editor and reviewers spend many hours reading manuscripts, and therefore appreciate receiving manuscripts that are easy to read and to edit. Therefore a mandatory template has to be used (template).
Please also take note of the technical instructions outlined in the template. Furthermore, please make sure that your manuscript is carefully checked by a native speaker familiar with the technical terminology.
Please also bear in mind:
Whenever possible follow the structure given in the template including title, keywords, abstract, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments and references.
Abstract (written in italics)
Give a short summary of your work (maximum 1200 characters, blanks not included) enabling readers to grasp the main messages.
Introduction
After a short introduction to the theme, this part will give a clear description of the objectives of the presented work.
Material and Methods
Prepare a comprehensive description of the methodology, including enough details to explain the approach used and the critical choices made. Whenever possible refer to well- documented standard methods.
Results
Give a concise overview of the results, preferably using tables and graphs and enough details to support your conclusions.
Discussion and conclusions
The main results should be briefly compared with the state-of-the-art within the field. The paper should end with a concise conclusion that is clearly backed by the results presented.
References
Limit your reference list (at least 4, up to 11) and try to select excellent papers.
Review process
All papers will be subjected to anonymous peer review by experts who are not part of the managing committee in order to get an unbiased, independent and critical assessment of the papers to include in the proceedings. The review process will be organised and monitored by the scientific committee, ensuring maximum objectivity.
