The AASW9 was held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Nigeria. The theme was “Innovations and Partnerships for Resilient and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Africa”. It recorded 924 participants, with academia accounting for 70% and policy actors 12%.
The four-day event was organised by Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) with West and Central Africa Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF), the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, alongside continental, regional, national and international partners.
The key outcomes and commitments of AASW9 were:
- The Abuja Clarion Call on Sustainable Financing for AR4D
- Renewal of the Knowledge Management Partnership Framework
- Scaling technologies and agricultural innovation
- Climate resilience, soil health and sustainable natural-resource management
- Nutrition, health and inclusive food systems
- Stronger science-policy-business partnerships
- Renewal of FARA’s governance mandate
A key highlight of the AASW9 was the side event on the presentation of a document by Network of Organic Agriculture Researchers in Africa (NOARA) titled “Advancing the Organic and Agroecology Research Agenda for Africa” (OAARA2036).
