Through the 6th African Organic Conference, ISOFAR joins AfrONet, NOARA and other partners to promote scientific collaboration, research excellence and resilient agri-food systems in Africa.
The African Organic Network (AfrONet), in partnership with the Organic Producers’ and Processors’ Association of Zambia (OPPAZ), is preparing the 6th African Organic Conference (6AOC), to be held from 1 to 4 December 2026 in Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia, with opportunities for both physical and virtual participation.
Under the theme “Building up resilient agri-food systems and ensuring the right to food in Africa through organic farming”, the conference aims to strengthen knowledge exchange, scientific cooperation and dialogue among the different stakeholders of the organic agriculture sector.
Four thematic tracks
- Farmers’ Track, led by INOFO Africa, providing a platform for farmers and their organisations to share experiences, innovations and practical solutions.
- Research Track, led by NOARA, bringing together researchers, academics and students to present scientific evidence, innovations and research findings relevant to organic agriculture, agroecology and resilient food systems.
- Trade & Exhibition Track, led by KOAN, connecting producers, processors, buyers, exporters and other value-chain actors.
- Policy Track, led by the African Union Commission’s EOA-I initiative, addressing policies, strategies and institutional frameworks that support organic agriculture and agroecology in Africa.
Strengthening scientific collaboration
The Research Track is an important opportunity to strengthen links between African and international research communities. The International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR) has been appointed as a co-lead institution of this track, alongside NOARA.
Prof. Khaled Sassi and Prof. Victor Olowe, both members of the ISOFAR World Board, will jointly coordinate ISOFAR’s contribution to the Research Track. Their involvement will include supporting the scientific review process and contributing to the development of the research programme, in close collaboration with NOARA and the 6AOC Scientific and Technical Programme Sub-Committee.
In addition, Prof. Khaled Sassi represents ISOFAR on the 6AOC Scientific and Technical Programme Sub-Committee, which coordinates the overall scientific and technical programme and supports consistency and quality across the conference tracks.
